Funky Friday is a Roblox rhythm game developed by Lyte Interactive. It is based on the rhythm game Friday Night Funkin'.

Gameplay[]

The game acts similar to Friday Night Funkin', although players battle against other players, unlike the previously mentioned. Furthermore, there is a Solo option, but you get no score, and no wins (or wins streak) from it. If the player hits the notes correctly on time, they get a certain number of points depending on how accurate the player is, "SICK!!" being the best and "BAD" being the worst.

There are many songs featured in the game, including the original songs from Friday Night Funkin', and some from various mods. For example: The B-Side mod, VS Whitty, The Tricky Mod, and Mid-Fight Masses. There are also other songs from outside the community, like Touhou themes.

The game has finally updated for a Christmas update in 2023! A few mods have returned to funky friday but the animations are still the same for now, watch as this games community grows again with future updates!

There are animations and emotes players can buy using the points they earn from playing songs that are based on character animations from Friday Night Funkin' as well as other references. Animations change what poses players do for hitting arrow, while emotes are animations for the player to sit on the speaker, which can be accessed by jumping on any speaker on the map. Animations and emotes do not change gameplay experience and are purely cosmetic.

As you rap (or "funk") against other players, you gain score. The player with the highest score wins. Although, there are other ways to win which you can choose from the song selection tab. There are three different ways to win, those being highest score, least misses, and highest accuracy. If the player's scores are the same, it is declared a tie. As you win or lose, you gain points, and with these points, you can buy animations or emotes.

Points[]

Based on how well you do after completing a song (the number of notes hit and when they were hit) you will be awarded with a number of points, maximum 50 (100 if you have the double points gamepass, 399 robux). You are given points if your opponent backs out regardless. These points can be used to purchase animations at Bom's shop. (Which is a nod to the Friday Night Funkin' modded character "Whitty"). You can purchase animations, emotes, tags and points (with Robux) from the shop.

• Rick Roll animation is based on Rick Astley's song: Never Gonna Give You Up.
• Boombox animation is based on the Golden Super Fly Boombox, A gear item.

• Ballistic animation is based on Whitty (Ballistic) from the VS. Whitty Mod.

  • The animation however isn't the same from its original mod, as you control the robot with levers instead of being inside of the robot.
• Kapi animation is based on Kapi from Vs. Kapi.
• Demon Tricky animation is based on Tricky's Demon Form from The Full Tricky Mod.
• Expurgation animation is based on Tricky in "Expurgation" from The Full Tricky Mod.

  • However, it seems the animation itself is not a reference to any specific Sans mods, as the existing Sans mods have different animations.
• Admiral animation presumably is based off on Azur Lane. However it does have a slight resemblance to the Admiral class from critical strike.
  • It's Idle animation is based off a ship name Graf Zeppelin. (Note: If you're under 13 it is not recommended to click this link!)
• CJ animation is based on CJ from the Starlight Mayhem mod.
• Ruby animation is based on Ruby from the Starlight Mayhem mod.
• CJ + Ruby animation is based on CJ and Ruby as they appear in "Artificial Lust" (Named "Artificial" in game).
  • However, the animation will unlock when you get both the CJ and Ruby animation.
• Sunday animation is based on Sunday from VS. Sunday.
• QT animation is based on QT and KB from the QT Mod.
• Amor animation is based on Amor from Vs. Bob and Bosip. It was removed from the game due to controversy.
• Hex (detected) animation is based on Hex during the Weekend X week.

• Disloyalty Mouse animation is a reference to the Wednesday's Infidelity mod after sadmouse.avi got deleted.

Emotes are a feature added to Funky Friday. Emotes allow players to sit on the speakers and bop their head to the beat. The speed of your character bopping its head is determined by how fast or slow the song is.

• The radio emote is based on Girlfriend in Whitty's week.

• The Reimu emote is based on Reimu from the Touhou Project Series. It is also based on the dance she does in "Neko Miko Reimu".
• The Itsumi emote is based on Itsumi being the DJ in Salty's Sunday Night on Week 5, Dinner Date.
• The DJ Tricky emote is based on Tricky on the title screen from the Vs Tricky Mod, and by association, the end of Madness Combat 4: Apotheosis.
• The Henchman emote is based on the Henchmen in Week 4 from Friday Night Funkin.
• The Stylish emote is LIKELY based on the cover for the Tux Trouble mod. Where Beastie is shown on the speakers in a similar manner.

Criticism[]

Funky Friday has been criticized by players for "ripping off Friday Night Funkin'", as both games share similarities. People think that the developer noticed the FNF trend and quickly made a Roblox game on it to make a quick buck, although the official FNF developers have stated that they encourage the remake and mods added to the game.

On December 9, 2022, it was announced that there would be a limited-time Sonic Prime event integration in Funky Friday.^[1] This led to controversy surrounding Sega's collaboration with a Friday Night Funkn' fangame, as some noted that the collaboration could lead people to think that Funky Friday is an official Friday Night Funkin' game, as well as the fact that Funky Friday had profited off of ideas and assets that were not theirs. Ninjamuffin99, the main programmer for Friday Night Funkin', responded by suggesting that he and PhantomArcade (the main artist and animator for FNF) consult their lawyers about their options.^[2]

• The Vs Sky mod was the first mod to get removed from Funky Friday, two hours after it was added. If a mod or mod developer gets bad enough controversy, Lyte Interactive will remove it.
  • The Beach Brother mod holds the record for the shortest time it was available in the game, clocking in at 10 minutes. The development team was notified about the controversy with the developer a few minutes after the update already launched.
  • Three mods trashed from GameBanana are still playable in Funky Friday: Vs Whitty, Mid-Fight Masses, and The Tricky Mod.
